- Why should someone buy SuperSprings?
- They can load their vehicle and/or tow with their vehicle without ever having to make any adjustments for varying load amounts. SuperSprings act in parallel with the existing factory spring-pack and kicks in only when loaded or when experiencing heavy cornering. They have been independently tested to give a 30% improvement in driver control by drastically reducing sag and sway while maintaining a nice, smooth ride.
- Who needs SuperSprings?
- Anyone who drives a vehicle equipped with rear leaf springs and is utilizing this vehicle near to its maximum capacity. The most obvious examples are trucks, vans and RV’s.
- What’s unique about SuperSprings?
- SuperSprings have a patented "Pivoting and Rolling Shackle" at the end of each leaf which causes the SuperSprings to only kick in when needed. This produces a consistently smooth ride and alleviates any rigidity. Springs are positioned above the factory springs, creating an “I-Beam” or “torsion tube” effect, reducing the factory springs lateral twisting thereby dramatically reducing vehicle body roll. Independent tests have measured a 30% reduction in body roll. Traditional helper springs do nothing to reduce sway.
- How are SuperSprings different from airbags?
- SuperSprings are maintenance free while air bags have a history of bags leaking, rupturing and lines being pinched. This requires time to repair with a cost for labor and parts. Installation time for SuperSprings with power tools is no more than 30 minutes while air bags generally require anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. SuperSprings drastically reduce sway while air bags do nothing to reduce sway.
- Where should the SuperSprings rollers be placed on the existing leaf spring to ensure correct installation?
- Most leaf springs are mounted to the underside of a vehicle in the following manner; the front of the top spring mounts directly to the vehicle frame, while the rear of the top spring mounts to a pivoting shackle. This rear shackle permits the factory spring to expand to the rear of the vehicle as it flattens out under load. Due to this typical configuration, the forward roller on the SuperSprings will undergo minimal movement because of the static nature of the front of the factory spring. On the rear of the spring pack, as the factory spring flattens and moves to the rear, the SuperSprings roller will accommodate that adjust by moving counter to it and travel toward the front of the vehicle. The amount of this movement will vary with the load adjustment but will not exceed total forward travel of one inch. So when positioning your SuperSprings, always ensure one inch of forward unobstructed travel for the rear roller. For the front roller, one half inch of clearance in either direction will be adequate.
- Do the SuperSprings need to be centered over the factory springs?
- No. Locate them near central as possible but more importantly ensure that the rollers have the clearance described above.
- Do the rollers need to be on the same leaf at both ends?
- No, the rollers to not need to be on teh same leaf at both ends.
- How much clearance above each end of the existing leaf spring is needed to avoid the SuperSprings from hitting anything above?
- At least 4" clearance is needed to avoid "bumping". If that's not possible with the standard application using the lower bolt holes on the shackle, use the upper bolt holes. If this is still not sufficient contact SuperSprings tech support for additional information on other shackle options that might be available.
- What is the weight rating?
- SuperSprings are rated in three categories. Light Duty rated up to 2,000 lbs., Medium Duty rated up to 3,000 lbs. and Heavy Duty rated up to 5,000 lbs. This rating is based on the combined capacity of the vehicle payload and the SuperSprings additional load capacity.
- How long should each installation take?
- In a home environment, with no power tools, usually less than 60 minutes.
- Can they be used in addition to air bags?
- If the airbags are axle mounted, inboard of the vehicles leaf springs, then the SuperSprings / airbag combination is possible.
- Which hole on the shackle should be used?
- The vast majority of all SuperSprings installations involve using the lower bolt holes at all four contact points - front / back / driver side / passenger side. The lower bolt holes installation induces the least amount of preload tension on the SuperSprings thereby lessening their impact on the empty vehicle ride condition which is what most customer prefer. Where clearance is an issue, the upper bolt holes may be used. If additional preload is required because of fatigued springs or a constant load on a vehicle the upper bolt holes should be used.
- Do they harden the ride?
- All SuperSprings installations require some preload tension so as to ensure no rattle or noise and so that the pivoting rollers will be automatically active. If the correct spring has been fit to your vehicle this preload should only have a minimal effect on your empty ride quality. "Ride" is a subjective quality and open to being interpreted differently by each and every customer. Should you feel your newly acquired SuperSprings ride is too hard contact our tech support line to ensure the installation has been correctly performed.
- What is the Warranty?
- SuperSprings offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the product for the life of the vehicle on which it was originally fitted.
- Do the anti-lock brakes need to be recalibrated?
- No. ABS brakes need to be recalibrated only when changing wheel and tire sizes.
- How do they work with self-leveling shocks?
- Great. There are no problems with the shocks. In fact, SuperSprings increase the life expectancy of the shocks as well as the tires and the existing leaf springs.
