Air Lift F.A.Q.

Answers to Common Air Lift Air Spring Questions

How Do I Find the Kit I need?

Air Lift kits are designed specifically for your vehicle type. Use our Shop By Vehicle feature in the top left corner, to select the type, make, model, and year of your vehicle. Our system will find the right Air Lift Air Spring kit for your vehicle.

Secure online ordering is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Will Adding air springs increase the Weight Rating of my vehicle?
No. Adding air springs does not change the Weight Rating (GVWR, GCWR, GAWR) of a vehicle. Adding weight over the factory rating is dangerous and voids your Air Lift warranty. Weight ratings take into account tires, bearings, frame, brakes and more. So just increasing your suspension's ability to support weight does not increase the weight ratings. Never exceed your vehicle weight ratings.
Do you have to add a compressor (On Board Air System) to your air springs?
No, but it sure is a nice feature! You can add air from any source, as long as it provides sufficient pressure to service the springs. On Board Air has become popular because it is so convenient, and because it is harder to find service stations with air available. Depending on the system, adjustments can be automatic, or controlled from your dash, even while driving.
How do I get replacement parts, should I need them?
Truckspring.com is an authorized distributor of Air Lift, and stocks a full inventory of replacement parts. Call us at 1-800-358-4751, to order replacement parts.
Do I have to keep air in the springs all the time, and how much pressure do I need?
Yes. Always maintain the recommended minimum air pressure, even when unloaded. This keeps the air springs "in shape" so they move through their normal travel without rubbing or wearing. Minimum air requirements vary with vehicle and load - consult your instruction manual for recommendations.
How long do air springs last?
If the air springs were properly installed and the owner maintains the air springs, they can last indefinitely. Maintaining the air springs is quite simple. All that is necessary for air spring maintenance is to check the air pressure on a weekly basis. If one of the Load Controller II or SmartAir compressor systems is installed along with Air Lift air springs, then the compressor system automatically adds air if the pressure falls below the unloaded vehicle minimum pressure.
How much will air springs raise or lower my vehicle?
Air springs do not take the place of a lifting or lowering kit. However, air springs will cause the normal ride height to ride slightly higher, if that is what is desired. By adjusting the air pressure, a slight lift can be created, but it is typically only an inch or two.
My vehicle rides rough; will adding air make it ride better?
Yes, but it depends on what is causing the rough ride. Air springs are engineered to regain ride quality lost by carrying heavy loads or from fatigued springs.
Can I use air springs with factory overload springs?
Yes. Air Lift recommends that the factory overloads be removed before adding Air Lift air springs, however, most of Air Lift Air Spring Kits will work with the factory overloads left in place.
How long does it take to install an Air Lift air spring kit?
Assuming you know your way around a suspension and this isn't the first time you've had a wrench in your hand, it will probably take about two hours to install a typical Air Lift kit. If you have access to a hoist and jack stands and air tools, the job can go faster. Always go through the installation manual before you start the job to familiarize yourself with what needs to be done. Installing an Air Lift kit isn't extremely difficult, but it has to be done right to get the best results. Unless you're pretty good with cars, you should let a trained technician install the kit.
Can Air Lift air springs and accessories be installed by the average home mechanic?
Yes. Air Lift has made every effort to design their systems for ease of installation. Any average home mechanic can install them. If you have questions, you can call us @1-800-358-4751 or 1-989-755-0561. We're open 7am - midnight, Monday - Friday, and 8am - 1pm on Saturday.
Do you add air before adding the load?
AirLift 1000 requires adding air first. Ride Control and Super Duty do not.
Can the air lines be connected together?
Yes they can, but you lose roll control due to air transfer and the ability to level left to right.
Will raising the vehicle on a hoist for service work damage the Air Lift air spring kit?
No. The vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work (ex. tire rotation, oil change, etc.). However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off of the air springs.
What is the warranty on the air springs and compressors?
Air Lift offers a 60 day no-risk satisfaction guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your purchase simply remove the products and return to your dealer for a full refund.
Air Lift air springs and compressor systems come with a manufacturer’s limited two year air spring warranty, against defects in workmanship or materials. This does not include installation or other service charges for replacement.
The standard warranty can be extended to a full lifetime limited warranty with the purchase, within 60 days, of an on board air system.
