Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs

Ride-Rite air helper springs, often refered to as Firestone air bag kits, can be installed on most light trucks, motorhomes, RVs, SUVs, and vans. Firestone air helper springs are installed between the frame of the vehicle and the suspension, providing load support through the use of air pressure.

Firestone has made a commitment to provide the customer with the premium air helper spring kits in the industry. Ride-Rite has become synonymous with quality, durability, and with customer support truly second to none. Each application is specifically designed to maximize the safe load carrying capacity, stability, and ride quality of the vehicle.

Video - How To Install A Firestone Ride-Rite No Drill Air Bag Kit

Firestone Ride Rite air helper springs utilize a pair of convoluted air bags which can be adjusted for changing loads. These air springs are capable of 3200-5000 lbs of load leveling capacity per set.(Note: Do NOT exceed the vehicle's recommended gross vehicle weight rating GVWR). Firestone air helper springs enhance the ride by reducing leaf friction. Please remember that air springs do not increase the load-carrying capacity of your vehicle.

Ride-Rite air helper springs enhance the ride by reducing inter-leaf friction. Please remember that air springs do not increase the load-carrying capacity of your vehicle.

Basic Kit includes everything for a quick installation:

  • 2 Air springs (Air bags)
  • Mounting Brackets
  • Hardware
  • Air line
  • Separate inflation valves for manual inflation

Customer Q&A - Firestone W217602430

Do I need a compressor to run this unit on a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Asked
Firestone kit 2430 does not require an air compressor to run the unit. The kit comes with inflation valves for manually inflation. The air bags are inflated the same way you would a tire. The air compressor kits are very convenient, but are not required.

Does this product require drilling for installation? When installed, how well do they handle the salt from the roads?

Asked
Firestone Ride-Rite kit 2430 does not require drilling of the frame. The kits handle the salt well, we use them in Michigan with no issues. The air springs are made of rubber, so we do recommend cleaning them as you would the undercarriage of the vehicle after heavy salt contact.

Does this work if the truck has a lift?

Asked
Firestone Ride-Rite kit 2430 is designed for stock height trucks. Firestone does offer spacers for lifted trucks to compensate for the lift. We would need to know how much and how your truck is lifted to determine the correct spacer kit. Feel free to call us at 1-800-358-4751 if you have any questions.

Can you just inflate these manually using a standard air compressor to the supplied air lines rather than installing a compressor on the truck.

Asked
Yes, the come with inflation valves so they can be aired up the same way as a tire can. You can inflate them with a portable air compressor, at the gas station, etc.

I have a 2013 chevy 1500 4x4 - it only has 30,000 miles, and rides very rough, feels like the shocks are not doing their job, but I have taken it to chevy and they say everything looks fine. will airbags give me a smoother ride? do I need to install them on the front as well? thanks

Asked
If your 2013 Chevy 1500 4x4 is riding rough, the 1st place we would look is the shocks. We recommend installing Bilstein front shocks 24-188227 and rear shocks 24-186841 before we would add a Firestone Ride-Rite kit. If you are towing or hauling heavy loads, we would recommend an air bag kit for the rear. If you are not towing and experiencing a rough ride we would not recommend it and would look further into the shocks.

I use my truck to hunt with and of coarse that means it's off road. While off roading will the suspension travel being maxxed out damage airbags?

Asked
As long as the suspension on the vehicle is stock (no lift kit) the Air bags should have an appropriate amount of extension to accommodate the suspension travel. Using these kits off road does increase the risk of debris damaging the air bag and causing leaks. An airless suspension option may be a better option for a truck that is used frequently off road. Feel free to call me at 1-800-358-4751 if any questions. Ryan

How much air pressure should I run if not hauling anything?

Asked
Firestone Ride-Rite kit 2430 should have a minimum air pressure of 5 psi at all times. Some of our customers do run a little higher when empty, 7-10 psi depending on the condition of your suspension and the ride type you prefer. 5 is the lowest you should ever run the air bags at.

I have a 2010 GMC SIERRA 1500 4WD that I lowered 3 inches,will this air spring kit still fit?

Asked
Firestone Ride-Rite kit 2430 is designed for stock height trucks and will not work with a lowered truck. It will work with lifted trucks and spacers, but there is not enough clearance to work with a lowered truck. We do not have an air spring kit for a 2010 Sierra 1500 with a 3 inch drop.

will i have to do anything different when i change the oil at a shop that usages a lift that goes on frame

Asked
If you have to lift the vehicle by the frame, first release all the air pressure from the air springs. This will allow the air springs to extend to their maximum length without being damaged. The uninflated air springs are capable of supporting the weight of the axle when the vehicle is lifted by the frame. After servicing of the vehicle is complete, lower the vehicle to the ground and reinflate the air bags to the desired pressure. You can disconnect the to or bottom bracket if your prefer and reconnect when done.

I got a 3.5 lift on my truck can i still use system

Asked
Firestone air spring kits will work with a lift kit. It will depend on how your truck is lifted if you will need air spring spacers or not. Firestone air spring kit 2430 sits on the axle and bolts to the frame. If you changed the distance from the top of your axle to the bottom of your frame, you will need an air spring spacer to compensate for the change. Feel free to call our tech support at 1-800-358-4751 if you need assistance.

Does truck ride rougher with bags inflated?

Asked
Air bags will generally only create a rougher ride if they are inflated up to or near the maximum air pressure of 100 psi. For most applications you will not need to inflate them to the maximum air pressure so the ride will not be rough. It's very rare that we have someone complain that the air bags have made the ride rough when in use.
