Brake Controllers

Electronic trailer brake controllers fall into two general categories: timer-based brake controllers and proportional brake controllers. All brake controllers generate an output signal to a trailer brake system when you first touch your brake pedal or activate the brake controller's manual control, if equipped. What happens next varies depending on whether you're using a timed or proportional brake controller.

Installing brake controllers today is as easy as plug and play when using a brake controller wiring adapter and a brake control with a wiring port built into the back of the unit. Be sure to add a wiring adapter that is vehicle specific for quick and easy installation.

A timed brake controller has a timer that generates an output signal for your brakes that increases with the amount of time you keep your foot on the brake pedal. The braking is applied at a set fixed rate and is not related to foot pedal pressure.
Proportional based brake controls offer a smooth braking response to almost any stop. Through the use of a sensing device, the brake control can determine the tow vehicle's rate of deceleration and then apply the trailer brakes to match.
Brake control adapters greatly reduce brake control install time. The brake control adapters are vehicle specific and simply plug into the OEM harness under dash.
