How Much Does a Lift Kit Cost?

The Cost of Lift Kit Installation

After you’ve decided which lift kit is best for your needs, it’s time to factor in how much it will cost to install a lift kit. Keep in mind that the total time it takes to install a kit varies depending on the manpower of your garage, and just like the kits themselves vary, so does the cost of getting one professionally installed. You’re looking at anywhere from $400 – $1,200 for installation.

Types of Lift Kits

As we’ve mentioned before, there are two types of lift kits. Because they interact with your suspension differently, their price range is also different.

Body Lift Kits

Body lift kits only affect the height of your vehicle’s cabin, keeping the suspension frame in place while still allowing for larger tires. Your ground clearance will not change, so you won’t get extra height to protect your vehicle’s undercarriage. Because there’s less parts and work involved in the installation, these kits are a less expensive option than their suspension lift kit counterparts.

Suspension Lift Kits

Suspension lift kits are typically more expensive than body lift kits – however, you’re getting more for your money. Suspension lift kits lift your entire vehicle to a greater height, including the frame and suspension system, which not only allows for larger tires but also creates more ground clearance. These kits are favored by off road enthusiasts as a result. A suspension lift kit can cost anywhere from $300 - $2,000, and the cost of installation by a professional garage also depends on the type of kit you purchase, ranging anywhere from $400 - $1,200.

Other Costs

Any change to the suspension or ride of your vehicle is going to need a professional alignment to make sure that everything is lined up properly. An alignment will usually be $80-200, so be sure to factor that into your budget – it’s essential to get this done as soon as you can after installing a lift kit.

Like any aftermarket installation, there are other parts and tools you may want to invest in so that you get the best fit and maximize your own work time. Here’s a list of tools you may want to consider purchasing or renting (or borrowing from that friend who has a virtual pit stop in his garage):

  • Jacks and jack stands (be sure they’re properly rated for your vehicle weight)
  • Wrenches, screw drivers, nuts and bolts in multiple sizes. These are not only handy for auto work but just generally a good idea to have around.
  • Torque Wrench
  • Spring clamps
  • Hammer
  • Tire stops
  • Tire removal tools
  • Breaker bar
  • Lubricant
  • PB Blaster
