Looking at mounting this axle to a teardrop trailer. The frame will be 2x2 .120 wall. Can I weld the mounting plates to a 2x2 .120 cross member, or do I need something wider or heavier? Appreciate the advice!

We spoke with The Universal Group on the frame requirements for welding the Flexiride base plates. 2 X 2 square tubing with .120" wall will be fine for the 2000 lb application. They advised "The base plate point is to be welded to the trailer frame. For the 2000 lbs capacity, that frame is likely to be made of 2.5 x 2.5 x .125", but 2 x 2 x 0.125" square tubing will be fine for welding. The actual rigidity of the frame made of 2 x 2" tube depends on the construction of the frame itself"
